UNDERCOVER(S)

‘Fess up: Some days don’t you just want to stay in bed with the covers over your head until 2022?

How are you a getting through these dystopian times? One practice I’ve started and will continue after Covid is gone (yes, I have to believe that one day this will all be over) is to sing to these two loves (while giving them puppy massages, so they put up with my less-than-mellifluous voice).

Research has shown that singing can lower stress, relieve anxiety, and elevate endorphins. So, every morning, we start with “Good Morning to You” (which I detested when my mother used it to get me out of bed, but the dogs don’t seem to mind when I tell them “We’re all in our places, with sunshiny faces”). Then on to “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (don’t you wish Mr. Rogers were still among us? We’ve never needed him more, right?), and we finish with all three verses of “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning.”

After that, the dogs are ready to go out to pee and poop and chase tennis balls, and I’m ready to sit down at the computer and start writing.

All three of us are happy to start our day on a high note.
